Green Bans Art Walk is a collaboration between BigFagPress, Cross Art Projects, Firstdraft Depot, Fiona MacDonald and a number of Woolloomooloo and Kings Cross residents.
GBAW is an extensive research project which will bring back the excitement and struggle of the ’70s in Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst and Kings Cross, producing a guided walk open to the public for a limited time only and a self-guided walk available for locals, tourists and scholars who want to know more about the Green Bans and how they shaped the urban development of Sydney’s suburbs.
Locals such as Mick Fowler and Juanita Nielsen working with unionists, building workers and wharfies, artists and architects changed the rules that make urban history.
Help celebrate the legacy of saving historic buildings such as Elizabeth Bay House and reclaiming low-income housing for workers. We invite your participation in the inaugural WALK from The Cross Art Projects in Llankelly Lane, Kings Cross, to the Firstdraft Depot in Riley Street, Woolloomooloo, on the opening weekend: 6-7 August 2011 at 1pm
GBAW has been commissioned by Performance Space for its WALK program in 2011, is part of Sydney Design 2011, presented by the Powerhouse Museum, has been supported by the Awesome Foundation and will be part of Weekend @ Firstdraft Depot.
